Top 10 powers meet in Avalon vs. Abbott


No. 8 ranked Avalon and No. 10 Abbott are separated by only 35 miles, but when it comes to Class 1A baseball, the two are quite familiar. Like district neighbors, they’ve met, in fact, 18 times in six years, including a pair of three-game playoff series in the past two seasons. Friday, May 17, they hooked up again, this time in a doubleheader on Waxahachie’s new, carpeted field. Should they split, the third and decisive game was scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 18, in West, just seven miles south of Abbott and 17 south of Hillsboro. The winner between Avalon (12-9-1) and the Panthers (14-11), who have gone 1-1 in two games this year, will face the No. 3 ranked Dodd City (15-5) vs. Perrin Whitt (4-15) victor.
