Top fuelers plan appearance

As if the Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series wasn’t already jammed packed with enough cars to satisfy anyone’s need for speed, the 2011 Divisional meet at Texas Motorplex just got better – Nitro-burning Top Fuel cars will be making 300-mph blasts.

The South Central Division comes alive April 15-17 at Texas Motorplex. The Motorplex will play host to hundreds of the divisions quickest and fastest racers and this year, Top Fuel cars too!

Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series competitors are racing for vitally important series points that will determine who gets a piece of the $560,000 points fund prize at the end of the season. Racers will vie for trophies, bragging rights and prize money in several categories including Top Alcohol Dragster, Top Alcohol Funny Car, Comp Eliminator, Super Stock and more.

“We are going to announce the Top Fuelers later this week on Facebook, but fans should be thrilled to know we are going to have Top Fuel cars so early in our season,” Motorplex General Manager Gabrielle Stevenson said. “Fans can also find out when they can start getting free tickets to this event at Soulman’s Bar-B-Que on Facebook too. We have partnered with the wildly popular Texas BBQ restaurant and they will be handing out tickets to the event soon.”

The 2010 winners at Texas Motorplex are Kristen Wootton, Top Alcohol Dragster; Tony Bartone, Top Alcohol Funny Car; Ernest Watson, Comp Eliminator; Bill Devine, Super Stock; Kevin Helms, Stock Eliminator; Austin Williams, Super Comp; Jeff Lopez, Super Gas; Ray Dew, Super Street; P.J. Vicari, Top Dragster; Keith Raftery, Top Sportsman; Ben Brown, Sportsman Motorcycle.

Gates open at 8 a.m. on Friday, April 15 while time trials start at 9 a.m. and Top Alcohol Dragster and Funny Car racers line up for qualifying at 5:30 p.m. Gates open at 9 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 while Top Alcohol Funny Car and Dragsters making final qualifying passes at 1:30 and 5:30 p.m. Gates open and eliminations start at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 17.

GENERAL ADMISSION/PIT PASS — Friday: Adult, $15; Junior (6-15 years), $5. Saturday: Adult, $20; Junior (6-15 years), $10. Sunday: Adult, $20; Junior (6-15 years) $10.  Children (5 years-under), free with paying adult in general admission and pit access areas each day. Spectator parking is $5.

Soulman’s BBQ can be found at eight regional locations including: Royse City (818 East I-30), Garland (3410 Broadway Blvd.), Terrell (1081 FM 148), Rockwall (691 East I-30), Mesquite (1125 Gross Rd.), Dallas (1054 Regal Row), Van (2904 Interstate 20) and Greenville (3201 I-30 East).

Texas Motorplex was the first all-concrete stadium-style drag racing facility ever constructed. Built in 1986, Texas Motorplex has been the place of many drag racing milestones and world record performances. The Billy Meyer-owned facility hosts a number of racing and car show events between March and November each year and also features the Champion’s Club – an 11,000 square-foot facility – that serves fully catered events throughout the year.
