Warde’s Wheel House

Heinz produced a clever television commercial in 1977, turning the slow delivery of their top-selling ketchup into a positive process. Utilizing a line from pop-singer Carly Simon’s hit, “Anticipation is Making Me Wait,” the ad concludes, “the taste is worth the wait.” If Ennis Head Coach Sam Harrell had his way, the song would be played through the Lion Memorial Stadium speaker system, if not spreading liberally the message to an impatient Lion Nation fan base. Waiting and patience are not common characteristics of the Ennis crowd, though to Harrell’s credit, he has spread restraint to the masses upon his arrival at the end of May. Many may have chosen to disregard his assessment of his inaugural season or simply refused to believe his foreknowledge. Those clad in maroon would do well, especially those with a short memory, to look at how the Lions have done in the early going in each of the past four years. Add to it the less than hoped for 0-2 beginning this season gives Ennis a 2-11 record in the early stages of five consecutive seasons, from 2014 through this ought-to autumn.
