911 outage affects several

A 911 outage was affecting multiple counties across Dallas-Fort Worth area Wednesday afternoon, officials said. A technical glitch caused a widespread 911 outage across several counties for about 1.6 million North Texans but was rectified by about 4 p.m., but officials with the North Texas Council of Governments said they were still working out kinks to get the system running smoothly again. The outage included Ellis County. NCTCOG911 tweeted, “We are currently running at normal operations. The root cause has still not been identified. Our staff and vendors will continue to search for the cause.” Officials with the NCTCOG said the outage was not part of some malicious attack. “We had many contingencies in place so an outage like this could not occur,” said Christy Williams, with the NTCOG. “Unfortunately, it did. We are taking every step to make sure it never does again.” NTCOG is working to update the system and Williams said there could be more service failures during that process. Meantime Williams said she could not go into any greater detail about what went wrong Wednesday afternoon. “The design of our network is a matter of national security so I can’t go into those details,” she said.
