Poll shows Sanchez, Wright in tight race


Two candidates remain in the hunt for the open seat vacated after 34 years by Representative Joe Barton, though it appears to be tightening up with the rise in the polls by Democrat Jana Lynne Sanchez. Ron Wright, 65, has been the front runner from the outset. The Tarrant County tax assessor has been in the public eye much longer than his 53-year old challenger, Waxahachie’s Sanchez. However, a recent poll shows that if the election were held today, Wright would garner 49 percent of surveyed voters to 45 for Sanchez. Counting the margin of error of 4 points could point to a much closer race in the November 6 election. The midterm elections will have all 435 seats in the United States House of Representatives contested, including Wright and Sanchez, the latter steadily gaining on the favorite.
