State Rep. Wray proposes school safety strategy


State Representative John Wray plans to introduce a strategy to protect students and teachers without compromising the rights of gun owners. Wray, along with Speaker Joe Straus and Texas Governor Greg Abbott and the Homeland Security and Public Safety Committee are crafting legislation to promote firearm safety and yet keep clear of infringing upon the rights of the U.S. Constitution. The plan, which is 44-pages in length, will include Wray’s charges against anyone committing an act of violence with a firearm on a school campus. “Making schools safer and preventing these tragedies is one of the most pressing issues for our communities and our state,” he said after making his announcement. “While we are all working to make immediate changes, we must also make school safety a priority during the next legislative session.
