Entire high school offered TB tests

Nick Todaro, nick@ennisdailynews.com

Both the city of Ennis and the Department of State Health Services are stepping up to offer free tuberculosis skin testing to Ennis High School students and faculty who have yet to be tested.

The moves come in response to growing concern over exposure to TB at the high school after a teacher’s initial diagnosis as an active carrier of the contagious form of the disease. A town hall meeting Wednesday night at EHS revealed significant public uncertainty about testing protocols up to this point, which have centered on those who have more intimate exposure to the originating teacher. The Ennis City Commission met today to approve $10,500 in funding for 700 tests at ERMC over four dates in October.

The TDSHS testing enhancements will run a similar course. The Ennis Independent School District will send out letters Friday, and testing will begin for these populations on Monday, Oct. 3 as permission slips are returned.
