Our Point of View – Self-Driving Cars and the EISD

Self-driving cars are relatively new. They are vehicles that can sense its environment and move with little to no human input, unlike what happens now when backseat drivers yell instructions to a teenager at the wheel. The robotic car, autonomous car or driver-less car are not the same thing as people driving while reading and texting. It is likely considered safer than those whose driver’s head bobs to glance at the screen of their phone while blindly driving for seconds at a time. The sound of either is cause to fear. Think of 3.4 tons (the weight of the average mid-size) going down the road at the speed limit with less than a fully attentive driver. Going on a year without a successor to Dr. John Chapman III, the former Ennis Independent School District superintendent, one might think the EISD is a driver-less vehicle. One would be wrong.
