Trustees searching for superintendent

Fall is bringing the Ennis Independent School District its share of anticipatory excitement. The Wade Bishop era as the new high school principal comes after a decade of exemplary leadership under David Averett. Bishop was highly regarded during his tenure at the reins of Ennis Junior High. As for Averett, he accepted a move to the downtown central offices where his vision and hands-on approach can impact an entire district while being a valuable resource. Returning at head football coach is Sam Harrell, an almost storybook like redemptive hire who has rallied the entire community, not just for the belief that state rings will be won and worn by even more teams, but because of the path he has trod and the faith that propels him. Coaching a young Lions team that is green as frog feathers, on Thursday they crushed a North Forney team that won 10 games last fall. Now, following EISD superintendents Barbara Qualls, who departed after four years at the helm in 2013, and then, after 4.5 years, Dr. John Chapman stepped down to accept a post with the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD, Ennis is searching for an heir to the work accomplished by those leaders. They hope to fill the void by the holidays. Lloyd Treadwell is the interim superintendent. His governing hand will steady the ship in the harbor until the new helmsman assumes the wheel.
