The National Active and Retired Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1191 held its monthly meeting from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bubba’s BBQ in Ennis on Tuesday, September 12, 2023. The guest speaker was Mary Brodie, administrative assistant with the Ennis Parks and Recreation department. Ms. Brodie has been in Ennis for 10 years and has an MS from Texas A&M University.
A three-vehicle fiery wreck occurred Thursday morning on northbound Interstate 45 which claimed the life of one driver in front of the Ennis Buc-ees station. Two big rigs were both overturned, which contributed to the roadway not reopening until the afternoon.

The weather has been a scorcher this summer, reminding me of how good snow cones tasted when I was a boy. My father, T.J. Sanders owned Sanders Food Store in the early 1950's on the corner of S. Dallas Street and Crockett Street. The big seller was crushed ice and block ice during the summers.
Following a 7-0 vote by City Commissioners to increase the cost per person playing at Bluebonnet Park or Veterans Park, a backlash against the move prompted a review. Two weeks later, on Tuesday, Sept. 19, the city reversed its course entirely.
