Ellis Co. has more recoveries than cases

Ellis County continues to post daily news of the impact of Covid-19, which has begun to show progress, including Thursday’s report of more recoveries than active cases. Ennis, whose numbers more than doubled the two largest cities, Waxahachie and Midlothian, a month ago, has seen only a slight increase.

Waxahachie, the county seat, once trailed Ennis in positive cases, 21-8, now has a 49-30 lead, with Midlo rising to 27. Red Oak has 13, with adjacent communities of Glenn Heights and Ovilla with six and five respectively. In Eastern Ellis Co., Ferris has just two and Palmer with one.

Overall, there have been 135 cases in the county, though just 62 remain active. That figure includes 13 that are considered probable – but are awaiting test results. Sixty-nine have recovered with only four deaths – and those have been to adults 70-90 years of age.

The most recent spike of five (ages 63, 79, 84, 87 and 92) in ‘Hachie involves five confirmed positive cases, each from the Legend Oaks Healthcare and Rehabilitation facility. In a statement released by Nathaniel Pecina, public information specialist for the county, the five “increases the total number to 19 confirmed positive cases of Covid-19 at Legend Oaks.

“Stay resilient, together we will continue to do our part in preventing the spread of Covid-19,” the statement concludes.

Ellis Co. ranks No. 28 in cases

In the list of positive cases, Ellis comes in a distant No. 28. Of the 254 counties in Texas, just 31 have 100 or more cases. In terms of deaths related to the virus, Ellis’ 4 is No. 22. The Top 31 in cases, along their death count, are posted below. The state has 593 deaths, which is No. 11 in the nation, though only 80 counties have reported any.

There are huge discrepancies in the world count, where the nation the virus began, China, only lists 82,804 positive cases. Yes, the largest country in the world – China - with 1,394,015,977, that’s one billion, 394 million. India is second at 1,326,093,247 with the United States at No. 3 with 332,639,102, as in 332 million.

Yet the USA has, by far, the most cases in the world with 912,010 cases. Spain is No. 2 at 219,764. Meanwhile, China counts just 82,804 positive cases, which is No. 8 in the world.

In regards to deaths, America, with the world’s best medical care, is No. 1 again, at 51,453. China has just 4,632. Complete, current counts are available online at worldometers.info/coronavirus. The figures beg the question of governmental controls and access to testing.

Early projections for worldwide deaths, which were in the millions, are currently over-shooting. As of Friday, April 24, the count stands at 195,923.
