Ellis County residents can find solace in two numbers heading into the Eastern weekend. First, the Stay Home, Stay Safe order has drawn to within two-and-one-half weeks of ending. Second, the death toll related to the effects of coronavirus remains at two for another week.

The Home Safe mandate is in effect until Thursday, April 30, at midnight. Most area citizens are abiding by the health precaution while social distancing at 6-10 feet is applied.

Mayor Angie Juenemann has continued a series of Wednesday “Community Connect” videos on Facebook. They include plenty of preventative measures as well as appearances by city leaders like EISD Supt. Jay Tullos and Dept. of Health Services Director Chauncy Williams.

Ellis County figures reveal 20 people from Ennis have tested positive, while Waxahachie, with eight a week ago, now has 18. Midlothian, with 13, Red Oak has 7, Ovilla registers two and Ferris, Maypearl and Palmer each has one.

County Commissioner Lane Grayson, of Ennis, responded to the numbers and his hometown on Friday by saying, “I have never been more proud of the citizens in our county. Our first responders and healthcare workers have worked diligently to combat this crisis at the front line. Their effort has not gone unnoticed. Our faith community and school districts should also be commended on their success of continuing to reach our families in this very trying time.”

Ennis’ 20 cases are as follows: 37 year old female, 88 M, 75 M, 36 F, 46 F, 21 F, 25 F, 86 F, 19 M and 45 F. The second ten are: 36 F, 40 F, 49 F, 59 F, 40 M, 20 F, 53 M, 16 M, 56 M and 33 F, all confirmed.

Easter weekend has seen both Dallas and Fort Worth close all parks.

“I would have loved for our community to be able to celebrate Easter in our wonderful parks, and I regret that we have to make this decision,” said Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson. “But we cannot take the unnecessary risk of further crowding in our parks right now. We cannot afford to jeopardize the gains that I believe we are making in the fight against COVID-19 with the stay-at-home orders that we have in place.” There are 376 parks in Dallas alone.
