For a second straight season opener, Ferris swarmed and stung the daylights out of the Madison Trojans, 426. A year ago, it was 48-21, making HC Tony Castillo’s debut a successful one. Last Friday, the Yellowjackets defense completely stifled Madison while the offense converted four touchdowns.

There are no frisbees or lakeside docks involved to the Lady Bulldogs flying circus. But HC Melanie Barnes has assembled quite an entertaining aerial act in Black & Gold.

HC Megan Allred led Avalon to a No. 9 ranking and a 25-9 record last fall. This year’s Lady Eagles have just two returning starters in Jennie Rodriguez and Brooklyn De La Garza. A 2-4 start was not unexpected, though the team is showing signs of clicking at 12-6.

Considered a huge underdog in last week’s home opener, Dallas’ A Plus Academy tacked on a pair of fourth quarter touchdowns to stave off Rice, 36-14, in East Dallas.

Self-taught, award-winning artist Tina Bohlman is versed in watercolor and oil painting and creates brilliant plein air paintings and rural landscapes. She will be the Demo artist at the monthly meeting of The Ellis County Art Association, Sept. 8 at First Baptist Church of Waxahachie (450 US287 BYP). The public is encouraged to attend.

Ennis went 4-2 at a tournament hosted by Forney, and then tamed Waxahachie Life, 3-1, to improve their overall record to 12-8-2.
