Bulldogs dig-out from 36-14 halftime deficit

Ennis High School 2024 graduate Ellie Wartsbaugh and Eastfield College volleyball team won their third straight national championship, beating Dallas Athletic Conference rival Dallas College Brookhaven, 25-17, 25-14, 25-16 at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Championship Saturday night at Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Rising after a seventh-place finish in District 183A, the Rice Bulldogs have aspirations for a muchimproved season on the hardwood. Opening with a 53-34 rout of Malakoff Cross Roads was a great debut. HC Tony Burks welcomes a host of returning players from last year’s 6-19 squad, and they showed up big in the first game. And these dogs will hunt.

Jerry Mason knows a thing or two about basketball, from his playing days at Texas Tech, to coaching. The last time Ennis was winning district championships and eclipsing 30+ wins per season was when he coached the Lions over a decade ago.

Class 5A Region 2 teams advancing to the second round are the eight winners from the first round, including the Ennis (7-4) -vs- Port Neches Groves (11-0) clash in Montgomery. The game was broadcast by NFHS, which was pay-per-view.
