Over the last month the 40-miles of Bluebonnet Trails have been covered by all sorts of vehicles, including SUV’s, mini-vans, extended cabins on large pick-up trucks, full-sized vans, people-movers and an assortment of busses.

Truth has become a battlefield. What is under siege are the facts. In recent years those who control the media have also controlled the news, using it as propaganda to shape the views of the public.

There was once a cat named Blackie whose cavalier, devil-maycare attitude toward Life endeared him to those who were graced by his presence.

Watching Mayor Angie Juenemann in a colorful online video today sure amplified the anticipation of the Ennis lineup of events that is now upon the immediate horizon.

When I was a kid growing up in Florida, my sister, Karen, and I loved it whenever company dropped by our house in Delray Beach. Especially unannounced. Since our home life wasn’t all that peaceful, guests meant a break from the tension of an alcoholic step-father and a mother who would pick fights with him.

Since my vast realm of work responsibilities includes reading most of the words that appear within a newspaper twice a week, I admit that I face some words with more enthusiasm than others.

Easter, not Christmas, is given top billing by many, if not most Christians, as the premier holiday related to Jesus. While the latter celebrates his sinless birth, the former recognizes his purpose – to reconcile man with God. That, the Scriptures declare, was accomplished in his death, burial and resurrection.

April is the month of new beginnings when trees begin to sprout their leaves and flowers emerge from the ground to express their beauty. This is also the time when we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. God’s infinite love for us is the foundation of the Christian faith for without Jesus being raised to conquer death, hell, and the grave, He would have been just another courageous martyr. You see, His perfect blood was sprinkled on the mercy seat and was the only payment that was holy and powerful enough to redeem, transform, and purchase the spirits of those who will believe. John 19:30 declares the Son of God cried from the cross, “It is finished” which guaranteed the covenant authority of God’s word is true and the spiritual reality that eternal salvation is now available for all who hear the gospel, are convicted to repent, and choose to embrace Him by faith. This is why the gospel is called the good news and truly it is the ultimate promise of hope and peace the world needs to hear.

Every year, about this time, I recall with great anxiety the one time I owned a real Easter rabbit.
