Going up against a field of 20 Class 5A and 6A harriers in a Cross Country mega-meet in Midlothian, both the Ennis varsity and junior varsity boys finished just below a tangle of larger schools in the middle. The course was adjacent to the MISD Stadium.

Weber State announced earlier this week that former Ennis and UT-San Antonio quarterback Jackson Gilkey will start on Saturday afternoon, August 30, when the Wildcats play at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, VA.

The senior has been the regular bestfinisher for the Ennis cross-country harriers, including a recent fifth place effort. Veteran HC Lonnie Redning boasts of his fight to compete. He also says his strongest assets are discipline and his dedication.

Toe-to-Leather, area teams begin playoff quest

Senior Kayleigh Easley led a three-set road sweep, 26-24, 25-12, 256, over Class 4A Venus on Tuesday. She hammered 10 of her team’s 29 kills. Following a close opener, the Class 3A Lady Bulldogs blitzed the hosts 50-18 in the remaining sets on a night when Palmer hit .318.
