Memories of Ennis - The "Air Hobo"

 

That’s what he was called. Poor Alvin Breeland, the “air hobo” of Ennis, had been serving in the 11th Aero Squadron when, in 1919, the young private made national headlines for stowing away in the landing gear of a plane. During a refueling stop at Fort Bliss he was discovered. A United Press reporter asked him why he did it, and his reply was that he was “homesick and wanted to get back to Ennis…
