Ellis County’s Grand Old Party (GOP) has announced a public press conference on Wednesday, Oct. 14, on the steps of the historic Ellis County Courthouse in Waxahachie. The public is invited, as well as elected officials and current candidates.

Just over a year after new city manager, Andrea Weckmueller-Behringer, arrived in Ennis, she recruited a veteran administrator to City Hall. Two months ago, she introduced a 25-year veteran in the field, Matthew (Matt) Wojnowski, as the new Assistant City Manager.

Hosted at the SPJST Hall, the 34th Annual Taste of Ennis fundraiser is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 8, from 5:30-8:30 p.m.

Hannah Shelby is running against Matthew Zajic, currently the sitting County Commissioner of Precinct 2. A certified personal trainer and a business owner in downtown Waxahachie, she is not intimidated by the challenges she is facing.

Palmer continues its show of progress with news of the addition of ballfields to be used by the Palmer Youth Athletic Association. This spring scores of young people of elementary age through young teenagers played on baseball and softball teams on fields maintained by Palmer City Parks.

Under the direction of Finance Director Stanley Muli, the City of Ennis has earned national recognition for its performance in the purchasing division. The honor was announced during a recent City Commissioners meeting at City Hall.

Two of the four Ellis County Commissioner seats will be decided at the polls on November 3. Precinct 2, which covers most of Ennis and beyond, and Precinct 4, an area that includes western and eastern Midlothian, as well as Ovilla and Red Oak, will have interesting races.

When the Texas Fire Chiefs Association cast light on the Ennis Fire Department about an award for obtaining best practice standards, it prompted a closer look at just how good the crew is at the three fire stations in town. Doug Boeker, Secretary of the TFCA, presented the plaque, which was the first time Ennis has ever been the recipient of the honor, during a City Commission meeting at City Hall on February 17.
