Ennis finished the year ranked No. 5 in the Metroplex among Class 5A football teams according to a panel of experts in SportsDayHS in the Dallas Morning News. The Top 12 included eight teams from the larger Division I and four from Division II, including the Lions, No. 6 Red Oak, No. 8 Frisco and Colleyville Heritage at No. 9.
