Ennis invites locals and visitors to the 2021 Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, May 31, at Veterans Memorial Park. The one-hour venue draws crowds in the hundreds, with attendees encouraged to bring their own chairs as seating is limited.

The EVMP is located at 2301 Ennis Parkway, behind All-Star Lanes and Don Jose’s on the west end of Ennis Avenue.

The start of the program commences with a presentation of the colors by the Marine Corps League Color Guard, to be followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by Madison Bell.

Jim Jordan, Chaplain at the American Legion Post 361, will share the invocation after the playing of the Star-Spangled Banner. Mayor Angie Juenemann will greet the audience on behalf of the city prior to Veterans Program Chairman Annie Wartsbaugh brings opening remarks.

As is customary for the venue, a ceremony of remembrance will take place before keynote speaker Eddie Salazar, a retired USMC veteran.

The closing elements hold great meaning to veterans and their relatives, starting with a drum cadence, the laying of a wreath and then a gun salute – both by the Marine Corps League Detachment Honor Guard.

Don Shannon will then perform “Amazing Grace” on bagpipes. The USMC Color Guard will raise the U.S. Flag prior to Nathan Grant doing the benediction. He is the Emcee for the day as well as a veteran community supporter.

EVMC still welcomes all donations, contributions, and gifts to this effort but most importantly, we ask for your support and prayers to see this goal accomplished. Please help us to say, once again, “Thank You” to our veterans.

The ceremony is made possible due to the collaborative efforts of the following groups; City of Ennis Mayor, City Commission and Staff, Ennis Parks and Recreation Dept., Ennis Street Dept., American Legion Post 361 & Auxiliary, American Legion Riders – Post 361, VFW Post 7106 & Auxiliary, Ellis County Detachment 1452 – Marine Corps League.

Chad and Elizabeth Wester, of Custom Sounds, will provide audio and the atmospheric conditions by personality DJ Chad.
