Ennis’ cherished son, Lieutenant Jack Lummus of the United States Marine Corp, died in combat on March 8, 1945. A wreath was placed at his cemetery marker in Ennis this week.
Lummus was a stellar wide receiver at Baylor and is still regarded at the finest centerfielder the Bears have ever had. He also played at end for the New York Giants of the NFL.
