The performing arts in Ennis flourishes today with two popular theaters, Theatre Rocks and the Ennis Public Theatre, the latter founded in 2002. But community theatre is nothing new to Ennis. A local organization produced plays here in the 1970s, starring Ennis and Ellis County actors, including actress Dorothy Deavers. Women, in fact, were important to theater in Ennis earlier than that.
