Ellis County Sheriffs sent deputies to a location east of I-45 in Palmer on Monday at 4pm and found two victims of gunfire near the 200 block of Neck Road. They were dispatched to the scene after leaning a group of young adults drove to the area and created a disruption of the residents at the location.

Nine vehicles seeking two parking places can create real anxiety, with gas and brake pedals, not to mention horns as tools to secure the desired destination. So, it is with nine hopefuls aiming to be elected for two vacancies.

New Director of the Ennis Economic Development Corporation, Miriam Castillo, has come out of the gate strong. Fresh from The Valley, she hosted a downtown workshop that drew about 50 community members, business owners, and stakeholders to talk downtown Ennis.

During a specially-called workshop at City Hall on Tuesday, Community Engagement Director Ashley Colunga shared an impressive overview of events hosted by the city. She presented a financial summary and entertained certain areas that could benefit by outside funding while also listing community traditions in need of preservation.

Ennis City and Finance Department was recently awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting. The national recognition came after the Chicago-based Government Financial Officers Association (GFOA) completed their review of the City’s Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR) for 2024.
