Dorothy Ann Zmolik Mikel

Dorothy Ann Zmolik Mikel, 85, died June 3, 2022, with her family by her side in Kemp, Texas.

Dottie was born at home on October 14, 1936, in Bardwell, Texas. She attended St. Edwards Girls Academy and graduated in 1954. She lived most of her adult life in the Dallas / Ft. Worth area until moving to Canton, Texas in 1976.

She worked as a bank teller for over 40+ yrs. in the Metroplex and Mabank until retiring to Ennis, Texas. In 2021, she moved to Kemp to be close to family.

She enjoyed singing, dancing and everything Czech. She loved to travel and enjoyed a number of trips to Europe, especially the Czech Republic. She was an avid reader and spent many an hour in the nearest library. She loved to laugh, and the joys of her life were her children, grandchildren and most especially her great grandchildren. During her time in Ennis, she was an active member of St. John’s Catholic Church and a member of the St. John’s Requiem Choir.

Dottie is survived by her daughter, Darla Schaffer of Waco, Texas, son and daughter-in-law David and Cris Cary of Kemp, Texas, grandson and wife Adam and Bailey Cary and great grandchildren, Oliver Lewis and Leighton Cary, all of Kemp, Texas, her sister, Betty Zapletal of Carthage, Missouri, and brothers-in-law Joe Vrana and Dan Tenney of Ennis, Texas, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Wesley Mikel, parents Louis and Mary Zmolik, sisters Mary Vrana and Linda Tenney, and her grandson Clayton Cary.

The family of Dottie wishes to extend our most sincere gratitude to her caregivers Robin Beer and Traci Klink along with the Always Accurate Hospice staff.

Services were held on June 10, 2022, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Ennis, Texas.
