Jack Gulledge, a longtime resident of Dallas, Texas, died at Baylor Hospital March 6, 2021, on his 83rd birthday, from complications of COVID-19.

Born in Ennis, Texas, on March 6, 1938, Jack graduated from Ennis High School, received his undergraduate degree from Sam Houston State University, and earned his law degree from St. Mary’s Law School. Although highly regarded as an attorney, Jack was best known in recent decades for an abiding love of music and for his mentoring and professional support of musicians. He was a talented writer, painter, singer, and beloved harmonica player. His signature song, “Going to Dallas,” was a staple of his performances in music venues from rural opries to the clubs of Deep Ellum.

He is survived by his second wife, Debra; first wife, Rosemary; children from his first marriage: daughter, Jackie, and son, Jay; his grandson, John and great granddaughter Aziza; his brother, Joe, and his sister, Janie. Jack’s remains will be laid to rest in Bristol, Texas, beside his parents, A.J. and Mittie. A Memorial service will be held with limited attendance by immediate family only, due to health concerns related to the ongoing pandemic.
