James 'Jimmy' Walker

James “Jimmy” Walker, 71, passed away in Ennis, Texas on Thursday, October 31, 2019.

Jimmy was born on February 22, 1948 to Bert and Mary (McWhorter) Walker. He grew up in Garland and graduated from Garland High School in 1966. He went on to attend Southern Oklahoma State University. Jimmy served his country proudly in the United States Army in Vietnam where he earned a Purple Heart.

Jimmy worked for Lone Star Gas as a meter installer and for the United States Postal Service as a city carrier retiring as a maintenance mechanic. He was a member of the American Legion. While at Southern Oklahoma State University he played baseball for the school team. Jimmy enjoyed golf, fishing and playing the bass guitar. He served as an umpire for coed softball. His dog Tank was his best pal.

He is survived by sons: Zane Walker and wife, Melissa, Samuel Walker and wife, Carey, Dylan Walker and wife, Sharon, and Hardy Walker and wife, Peggy; daughter, Kara Greener and husband, Gary; five grandchildren; a sister, Jean Anne and a host of extended family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents and a brother.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
