Josephine Patak Grmela, 85, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2022, while surrounded by family.

Josie and her twin brother Joe Ben were born in Ennis, Texas, on March 5, 1937, to Joe Macalik and Christine Salik. She was gifted with an enormous creative streak which she shared with the world through painting and sewing, frequently using her home and yard as her canvas. She was also one of the most giving and constant caregivers and shared this gift unconditionally with her whole family and many friends. She married her first love, Wesley Patak, on July 27, 1955. They raised their family, children and grandchildren, for 47 years in Ennis, Texas until Wesley’s passing in June 2002. She was blessed with a second love, George Grmela, whom she married on June 21, 2008. She and George shared a home in Waxahachie, Texas where she continued to share her creativity and caring with her family, taking tremendous delight that it now included George’s children and grandchildren as well.

Josie is preceded in death by her husband Wesley Patak, her parents Joe and Christine Salik Macalik, her brothers Joe Ben, Daniel, and Anthony, sisters in law Joann and Sharon, her granddaughter Ann Michelle Trojacek, great-grandson Landon Patak, and Joseph “Joey” Grmela.

She is survived by her husband George Grmela and her children: Danny Patak and wife Eva, Margie Hrncir and husband Rick, Johnny Patak and wife Judy, David Patak and wife Gayle; grandchildren: Tina Patak, Katie Trojacek, Ashley Patak, Hailey and husband Christopher White, Hillary and husband Tim Wells, Wesley Patak; great-grandchildren: Christopher Joe, Adalynn, Brody, and Ruby Gayle; brother: Gerald Macalik; sisters: Mary Ella Gibson, Christine Mokry; sisters in law: Margie Macalik, Helen Macalik. Her Grmela family includes Mark Grmela and wife Sheila, Steve Grmela and wife Toni, Janice Grmela, Patricia Green; grandchildren: Bradley Grmela, Gary Sewell, Brandon Green, Justin Grmela, Timothy Grmela, Kristy Grmela Cowart, as well as several great-grandchildren.

Josie’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Brookdale Senior Living and the Bristol Hospice families in Waxahachie for their loving care and support.

The family received visitors on Sunday, June 5, 2022, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. with the Rosary at 7 p.m. in the Keever Chapel. Mass for the Christian Burial was held on Monday, June 6, 2022, at 10 a.m. in the St. John Catholic Church, Ennis, Texas, with interment following at the St. Joseph Cemetery, Ennis, Texas. Luncheon followed at the Sokol Hall in Ennis, Texas. Services were under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary, Inc., 408 N. Dallas St., Ennis, Texas 75119
