Martha Ann Kucera

Martha Ann Kucera, 70, passed away into the arms of her Savior at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie, Texas on January 3, 2020. She was a resident at Legend Oaks for several years and a resident of Ennis Care Center just prior to her death.

Martha was born in Ennis, Texas on September 12, 1949 to Leon Stanley and Emilie Olga (Luksa) Kucera. She grew up in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1968. Martha earned a BA in History and English, elementary and secondary teaching certificates and certification in special education at University of Texas at Arlington.

She taught at Ennis ISD for several years and was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Ennis.

Martha is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Leon (Lawrence) Kucera, and her grandparents Frank and Annie (Sebetka) Kucera and Joe and Albina (Elsik) Luksa.

Following her mother’s death, Martha continued to be guided, lovingly supported, and surrounded by her cousins, Pauline Chmelar of Ennis, Margaret Chmelar Gurecky of Lewisville and Jeanette Labaj West of Temple. Jeanette and Margaret were privileged to be by Martha’s side during the final months and last moments of her illness. Special thanks to Ronnie Valigura who assisted Martha in many significant ways through the years. There are so many others who listened, encouraged and attended Martha as she reached out to them on her journey. The family wishes to sincerely thank each one for their love and care.

Interment of her cremains alongside her parents and brother at Myrtle Cemetery, Ennis, will be scheduled for a later date.

Memorial contributions may be directed to First Presbyterian Church, 210 North McKinney, Ennis, the Presbyterian Children’s Homes and Services, 300 Brookside Road, Waxahachie, the American Diabetes Association or to the charity of your choice.
