Mary Alice Kuchar Marusak

Mary Alice Kuchar Marusak, age 89, passed away on August 17, 2023 in Ennis, Texas. Mary was born July 20, 1934 to Edward and Albina (Zapalac) Kuchar in Dallas, Texas. She graduated from high school at St. Edwards Academy in Old East Dallas. She married Walter C. Marusak of Ennis, Texas in 1953. Together they drove to Alaska while he served in the US Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Great adventure. Homesick, perhaps, they returned to the Dallas area and began the business of making a living and raising a family. He became a home builder and carpenter; she served as a homemaker, secretary, and in various clerical positions. Times were hard, but they preserved.

A devote Catholic, Mary attended St. Bernard of Clairvaux, near White Rock Lake. She saw to it that her children got a catholic education at St. Bernard Elementary and Bishop Lynch High School and that all were able to attend college. She was active in garden and book clubs; sang at Midnight Christmas Mass; and traveled to Vienna and Mexico City with the Dallas Catholic Choir. She lit candles and visited the sick in hospitals. When she retired to Ennis in 2000, she continued participation with choir and Golden Crusaders at St. John Nepomuceme Catholic Church.

She is survived by her children, Ron, Walter (Melinda), and Jean; grandchildren Eric Green, Emily (Justin) Dale, Cara (Kyle) Rouvaldt, Christa (Nick) Duarte, Colin Marusak; and great-grandchildren Kirby, Charlie, Kit and Henry; sister Barbara Doughty and Nancy Betik; Bob, Penny and Ethan Green.

Mary was deeply troubled by the sudden death of her oldest daughter, Beth. She endured the slow passing of her husband, Walter, by dementia. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Ed and Albina Kuchar; sisters Dorothy Booth and Lillian Stull.

Visitation will take place on Monday, August 21, 2023, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, at 10 a.m., at St. John Nepomuceme Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery in Dallas.

Arrangements are under the direction of Boze Mitchell McKibbin funeral home in Ennis, 972-8782211.
