Melvin Lewis Smith was born on May 14, 1959, to Mr. W.T. Smith Sr. and Mrs. Mary Taylor Smith in Ennis, Texas. He passed away on June 25, 2020, at the age of 61 in University Place, WA.

Melvin received his education in Ennis, graduating in 1979. Upon graduation, he went on to serve in the United States Army stationed in Lakewood, WA. He served his country faithfully while on duty in Germany. He was a resident of Tacoma, WA for 40+ years, where he retired after 21 years of service to his country.

He leaves to cherish his memories; 2 sons: Melvin Cole, of Corsicana, and Marcel Smith (Helen), of Puyallup, WA; 1 daughter, Justina Ward, of Tacoma, WA; 2 brothers: Rev. W.T. Smith Jr. (Annie), of Lancaster, and Edward “Forty” Smith of Dallas; 5 sisters: Florence “Midget” DeBiddle, Annie Carol Smith, Mary Helen Smith, Brenda Daniels and Linda Smith all of Ennis; ten grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and a special friend, Rose Clinton.

He is preceded in death by his father, mother, 3 brothers: Charles Ray Smith, James Earl “Ike” Smith and Alvin Smith; 2 sisters: Annie Mae Presley and Alma Smith.

A private viewing was held on Wednesday, July 1. Interment to be performed in Tahoma National Cemetery at a later date under the direction of Edwards Memorial Funeral Home, University Place, WA.
