Ricardo G. Fira

Ricardo G. Fira, 71, passed away in Dallas, Texas on Wednesday, March 31, 2021.

Ricardo was born on September 7, 1949 in Sinton, TX. He spent much of his childhood in Ennis, Crosbyton, and Sinton with his family as they followed the crop seasons. In 1959 the family settled in Ennis, TX where he graduated from Ennis High School. Ricardo served in the US Army for 3 years. He then attended East Texas State University, where he became the first in the family to receive a college degree.

Ricardo had a wonderful career as the director of Human Resources at multiple companies in Texas and Louisiana. He also fulfilled the lifelong dream of going into business with his two brothers opening a meat market known by their family name. Later in life, he even found a new career passion as a “5th grade teacher” and “PE coach.”

Ricardo retired early and moved back to Ennis from Lafayette, LA where he was able to do some of the things that he enjoyed the most. He was able to spend time with his brothers on the golf course and time around the kitchen table with all of his siblings. He was able to spoil his first 2 grandchildren from the time they were young. These retirement years were some of the best years, filled with date nights, family dinners, family game nights, bread baking, sporting events, movie nights, family sleepovers, book festivals, and great BBQ adventures. Ricardo was an avid sports fan, whether it was his grandson playing peewee, local boys playing high school ball, college athletes playing softball, or the pros at the Ballpark. Some of his most recent joys were hearing his newest grand babies call him Popo.

He lived passionately and loved hard. Anyone that knew Mr. Ric for any length of time felt a connection and was instantly his family or his best pal.

He is survived by his wife, Michel Fira; his brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Irma Fira; his sister-in-law, Alma Fira; his sister and brother-in-law, Elva and Henry Castillo; his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, Ronnie, Heather, Cyprian, and Julian Fira; his daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Marcell Middlebrooks; his daughter, Angie Cornwall, his daughter and son-in-law, Lexi and Andy Young; and his son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, Travis, Mia, Nyla, and Rhea Dixon; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. All of these people experienced the love that he gave so freely.

Although he will be greatly missed, there is comfort in knowing that he has joined those that preceded him in death, his father and mother, Rosendo and Didia Fira; his brother, Roy Fira; and his daughter, Brandy Fira. What a family reunion they had on Easter Sunday in heaven.

Visitaton will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary of Ennis with Rosary at 7 p.m.

A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10 a.m. in the J.E. Keever Mortuary Chapel of Ennis.
