Richard Alan Roberson was born in Ennis, TX as one of seven children to William Franklin and Flossie Mae (Herron) Roberson on December 8, 1929 and passed from this life to his heavenly home on September 3, 2022. Graduating from Ennis High School, and a proud member of the Ennis High School Band, Richard joined the United States Army a few years later where he spent his tour at Fort Hood, TX and later as a member of the United States Army Band stationed in France.

Upon his return home, he joined his father, mother, and brother Bill in operating the Ennis Locker Plant, a downtown fixture in Ennis for decades, until he left in the early 1960’s to join American National Insurance Company where he would devote most of his forty-plus years in the life insurance business, once earning the leading agent award for the nation.

While his career led him to reside in Dallas for over three decades, Ennis was always his “home” and a place that he visited frequently until he returned for good, with his wife Charolette, in 2005. It would be here that they both actively served the community through their church, Tabernacle Baptist, as well as the Ennis Golden Circle Senior Activity Center, among other endeavors.

Richard loved music, the Dallas Cowboys, Ennis Lions football and life itself. Rarely did a day pass that he did not patrol the streets of Ennis monitoring the latest business development or community enterprise. For him, there was always something to do or someplace to go.

Having placed his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as a young man, it was in the last few years particularly where his thoughts began to turn toward Heaven, and his faith toward that end would only grow stronger with each passing year. As was recorded in Scripture concerning Abraham, it could also be said of Richard, that “he breathed his last and died in a good old age, an old man and full of years, and was gathered to his people” (Genesis 25:8).

Richard is survived by his faithful wife of thirtyone years, Charolette, as well as his only son, Rick, and his wife Karla of Gordon, TX, his step-children Connie Young, and her husband Adam of Plano and Clifford Eldred Jr. of McKinney along with grandchildren Ashlea Ranca and husband Dani of Gordon, Rhett Roberson of Granbury, Ashton Young of Oklahoma City, OK, Clayton Young of Waco, and Clifford Eldred III of McKinney, 5 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Flossie, his brothers Cecil and William F. (Bill) Roberson, Jr., and sisters Vivian Foote, Mary Gilliland, Maureen Riley, and Ruth Benham, along with his previous wives, Peggy Miller Roberson and Ruby Roberson.

Visitation was held Thursday, September 8, 2022 at 1 p.m. in the J. E. Keever Chapel, 408 N. Dallas St., Ennis, TX, with Funeral Services following at 2 p.m. Interment followed in Myrtle Cemetery, under the direction of J. E. Keever Mortuary, Inc.
