Yvonne Painter Goodnight
Doris “Yvonne” Goodnight, 91, of Amarillo passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2021.
A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 2pm in the Memorial Park Funeral Home’s Chapel of Memories, 6969 Interstate 40 East in Amarillo with Kyle Wilkinson presiding. Burial will be private. You may view the service via the livestream at www.facebook. com/memorialparkfuneral if you are not able to or wish not to attend the service in person.
Yvonne Painter was the daughter of Frank and Cora Allen Painter born on May 7, 1929 in Sunray, TX.
For 91 years, Yvonne “Mimi” enthusiastically met life. She loved people and never met a stranger. Her greatest wish was to leave life a little better than when she entered it.
She knew that any good thing that came of her life was the result of abilities and talents given to her by her Heavenly Father. She honestly tried to be a steward of those blessings by sharing them with whoever she met. She also knew that any hope of eternal life was covered by the blood of Jesus.
Because of the life and love she shared with her beloved husband of 65 years; she knew her dream for the future lay in the hands of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She knew she was merely a link in the chain of life. She put together memories of her parents, her husband and herself for the children and named the book, “Keys to the Future.”
Don’t grieve for her because she is no longer with us, rather smile as you remember any contribution she may have made. Celebrate her footsteps in the sands of time and have a party in her memory.
For the Christian, death is not gloom, it’s glory.
Yvonne graduated high school in 1946 and entered WTAMU that same year. She married J.T. Goodnight, November 27, 1947 and graduated from West Texas in 1949; later returned to W. T. to complete an MBE.
They lived in Amarillo all their married life except for a year in Liberal, Kansas. She taught at Avondale School, Canyon High School, and TSTI as chair of Office Training and Computer Science.
Those left to cherish her memories are her Children: Marsha and Ken Chapman, Ennis, TX, Debbie Portwood, Hemet, CA., Scott & Jackie Goodnight, Amarillo, Grandchildren: Melissa & Pat Smith, Hemet, CA, Amy Portwood, Seattle, WA, Brent and Laura Chapman, Fort Worth, TX, Mandy & Scott Winter, Cypress, TX, Elizabeth & Robert Guest, Forney, TX, Jacob T. “Jake” & Traci Goodnight, Midland, TX, James Fowler, Forney; and Great Grandchildren: Madeline, Gabriel, and Jude Smith, Mercy, Ember, and Shepherd Goodnight, Jackson Winter, Lucy, Zoe, and Dylan Chapman, Adalynn and Hunter Fowler and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in Death by her parents, her husband, John Thomas “Jake” Goodnight, her sister, Norma Jean Casey her daughter, Becky Fowler and her great-grandson, Judah Goodnight.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests you make a donation in honor of Yvonne Goodnight to Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch or a charity of your choice.
Honorary pallbearers were James Fowler, Brent Chapman, Jake Goodnight, Scott Winter, Robbie Guest and Pat Smith.
