Dear Editor:

My name is Robert Whitmore and attended Ubbi Dubbi at 53 years old. I’d like to describe Ubbi Dubbi from an old guy’s point of view who entered the Rave scene in 1984 and has loved it ever since.

Ubbi Dubbi was my first EDM (Electronic Dance Music) event in Texas since moving to NC in ‘88. I’ve been to many shows and small festivals over the years, but this was my first large commercial festival. I’m typically not a large crowd person but being in Texas, I was confident I would enjoy it, but had no idea just how much.

I’ve seen the Rave scene change over the years, and our founding cornerstone PLUR, Peace Love Unity and Respect, has diminished. The culture has changed so much in NC, that I almost left the Rave scene completely, shortly before coming to Ubbi Dubbi. The incredible youngsters here, renewed my faith in the soul of my beloved Rave scene.

I flew in Wednesday with a friend to visit longtime friends, my Mentor and my Sister before the event. While visiting, I started chatting in the Ubbi Dubbi 2021 Facebook group with our young Ravers. Everyone was excited and chatting about many different things while being very respectful to each other in discussions, unlike many Facebook groups. I started giving helpful tips and sharing knowledge hoping everyone had a wonderful experience.

Once the festival started, I started meeting and chatting with many of our young Ravers and many locals working the event. This is when I began to realize how special this group was. You could see and feel the PLUR radiating from everyone, and I felt like I was back in the 80s or 90s again. Many people working the event kept remarking how this was the best group they have ever had at the Motorplex. Wow!

No one in Ennis had any idea of what to expect from us. Many said they were initially shocked by us because of our wild clothes, strange music, and overall wild energy. Over the course of the weekend, they watched us, talked with us, and began understanding who we are and why we love this so much. We were earning their respect. Society has not understood, and many times frowned upon the Rave scene over the years, but Ennis gave us a chance and we showed that we appreciated you having us. I couldn’t be prouder of our group for demonstrating our old school beliefs and being exemplary ambassadors of PLUR.

On behalf of the members of the Ubbi Dubbi 2021 group, I’d like to personally thank Ennis and everyone involved for having us. Hopefully, we see y’all again next year.

Sincerely,

Robert Whitmore Greensboro, NC
