Reports are streaming in of new area residents seeing for themselves the redesigned and refurbished Ennis Public Library. A year in the making - while its contents were available at the former Municipal Building on W. Brown Street, the $3 million project is receiving rave reviews.

Ennis drivers were immediate beneficiaries of the recent repairs at the Ennis Avenue railroad crossing after much-needed work eliminated what had become a bothersome passage.

Anticipation mounts for Tuesday’s City Commission meeting at City Hall. The annual meeting will include discussion on what will become the new city budget for the fiscal year, which begins on October 1.

Hundreds gathered at Avenue Church on Wednesday to recognize the collaborative efforts of the Greater Ennis United Way during the past year.

Ennis Independent School District congratulated the finance office staff for receiving the Texas Education Agency’s Financial Integrity Rating System of Texas (FIRST). Accountability by public schools are expected by taxpayers, so operating with high-level integrity in financial management practices is welcomed as good news.

Tuesday’s spirited dialogue inside the chambers of City Hall represented differing insights and views of strong leaders. Elected for such discourse in determining the direction of Ennis, it led to curbing and merging while agreeing on a 2026 city budget that won’t be completed until the September 2 meeting of the City Commission.

During their regular meeting on August 19, Ennis City Commissioners demonstrated a strong commitment to potential home-buyers, existing homeowners, and local taxpayers by denying a commercial re-zoning plan and pushing back against a proposed property tax increase.
