Ever-popular, the Pumpkin Patch and Hay Maze have added a few elements that are expected to draw folks to North Plaza. The Ennis Choir, with over 180 voices, will perform this weekend, Oct. 4, at 10:00 a.m.

Opens in October at Ennis Public Theatre

Texas Women’s Foundation announced this week its annual Community Grants giving, which included The Heights Family Resources and 22 other nonprofit organizations that help the lives of women, girls and families. TXWF distributed $822,160, an average of $35,000 per organization in North Texas, of which The Heights, located on Hwy 287 in Midlothian, is the lone recipient in Ellis County.

Ellis County Commissioners Court and then County Judge Todd Little recently approved a new budget that included a 14 percent raise for County Sheriffs and staff. It began on Wednesday, October 1, and upped the starting salary for new, sworn deputies from $72, 467 to $83,220.

The 18th annual Paint Historic Waxahachie Plein Air Paint Out is now accepting artist entries, with the deadline extended to November 1. This highly anticipated event offers over $8,000 in cash prizes, merchandise and art supplies to winners.

A harvest of pumpkins is invading North Plaza in downtown Ennis. The peaceful takeover, which is scheduled as a monthlong sitin, begins on Monday, September 29, when National Honor Society students and Ennis ISD staff lend their creative hands to set up a virtual cornucopia of colorful gourds.
