Texas Tech centerfielder and former Ennis all-state shortstop Michaela Cochran was just inked to a teaching and coaching deal with the Palmer Independent School District.

Former all-state defensive back Jah’Shawn Johnson has been hired by Head Coach Sam Harrell. The talented safety at Ennis and then as a fouryear starter at Texas Tech, Johnson has been a welcomed addition.

Every decade since Lion Memorial Stadium opened (in 2000) the playing surface is rolled up and taken away and is then replaced by a new rug. The work was completed prior to commencement exercises.

Returning the entire boys squad that qualified for the 2019 regionals, Palmer appears loaded for an encore this fall. The girls team, on the other hand, will be full of a young runners looking to build.

New Cuero Head Coach Jack Alvarez hit the ground in South Texas like Fred Flintstone, feet peddling and plenty of Yabba-Dabba and Doo. The former 2014 state champion coach at Ennis, Alvarez had back-to-back teams produce 14-1 and 14-2 seasons.

Ennis shortstop Kenedee Yrlas signed a scholarship to attend and play softball at Hill College. She has a solid glove, arm and range and occasional power at the plate.

Among the many spinning plates under the control and balance of Athletic Director Don Drake is football season ticket sales.

Ennis looks to rise in the district volleyball standings and build a fourth consecutive season, all under HC Kelly Henderson.

Ennis Cross Country starts up at 7 a.m. on Monday, July 27, according to HC Lonnie Redning. The cool of the day is best for the summer, and just an hour before meet times in the fall.
