After years of planning, construction, and temporary relocation, the Ennis Public Library is now marking one year in its renovated home. The renovation, which transformed the library between 2023 and 2025, was designed to create more opportunities for visitors of all ages.

Interim County Judge John Wray issued a statement on June 29 in response to citizens requesting he act on the misdemeanor retail theft arrests of recently elected County Commissioner Matthew Zajic, of Ennis.

Palmer opened a new elementary school in 2015 for 397 students in pre-kindergarten through fourth grade. The Janie Barron Campus features state-of-the-art library, classes and an underground storm shelter. This summer the 65,000 square-foot school has been forced to add six classrooms for the fall as enrollment surged over 500 in the most recent year.

One-year in as Head of Schools, Dr. Greg Bradley is wasting little time in bolstering the leadership within the central offices of Ennis Independent School District. Three administrative moves have been made with another to be announced. Bradley advanced Wade Bishop to Deputy Superintendent, following the recent retirement of Brad Koskelin.

Led-off by a festive line of marchers, horseback riders, cars and truckspulling trailers, a Juneteenth parade of over 40 entries was just the beginning of a community celebrating what began in Texas and is now a national holiday.

President of the Greater Ennis Chamber of Commerce, Geoeffery Williams, reported the opening of a new non-profit organization whose mission is to develop the area workforce with strategic leadership training.

During last week’s City Commission meeting at City Hall, the opening agenda spotlighted a number of individuals, some were added to various committees, while others were cited as employees of the month. Mayor Lynda Isbell then drew attention to a pair of highly respected women who have faithfully served Ennis for years, who were announcing their retirement.

Alamo Middle School continues to serve at the heart of Ennis, evidenced by its recent replacement of the B.F. Thomas gymnasium floor. Opened in 1987, the original floor has been changed to an athletic mat comprised of Polysport Rubber Flooring System.

Last week the Republican Party of Texas held its biennial convention at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. The event was the first since the pandemic, and attendance was down considerably.
