My mother never watched soap operas. She was more likely to turn the television off, than on. She hummed while she ironed in the afternoon heat, or read a little bit when she finished, but she didn’t rely on a television set for daytime drama.

Is there ever a line to a certain song that makes you do a doubletake? In an old hymn that I love, “Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing,” there is a line that I didn’t understand the first time I heard it. That line was “Here I raise my Ebenezer, hither by thy help I’m come.” What in the world does that mean?!

We were frightened after 9-11, but we were quickly unified. Blind-sided attacks to New York and Washington revealed our vulnerability. Our nation hadn’t been exposed like that since Pearl Harbor in 1941.

As the discussion of brands dominated the lunch conversation, a friend admitted over chicken salad, “I no longer use dryer sheets. Instead, I just put a wad of aluminum foil in the automatic clothes dryer and it works great.”

com This is the time of year when Christians focus on the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Spring is a season of new life as His followers remember how He suffered and shed His blood on the cross and after three days He arose victoriously from the grave. To be honest, holy week is not so much a jolly time of celebration but rather calls for serious meditation, humility, and being grateful for the precious gift of salvation. It is bittersweet because it’s never pleasant to imagine an innocent person being brutally tortured, but knowing that Jesus miraculously came back to life, is a demonstration of His infinite power and authority and why we are so filled with humility and joy. Jesus Christ demonstrated His passion by surrendering His life so that we could live.

If it’s anything like the investigation into ties with Russia – which amounted to a goose egg, or the nasty Steele Dossier that was paid for by his political opponent in the 2016 presidential race… that, too, disproved as a duck egg, the Jan. 6 charge that the siege of the White House was his doing, yes, Robert Mueller’s Much Ado About Nothing, also proved little.

Decades ago, when both children were enthusiastic about hunting Easter eggs, I dressed them in matching Kelly Kids outfits with their names embroidered above bunny motifs. I have to say, they were precious in blue-and-white seersucker with ribbon bedecked Easter baskets Of course, the daughter stayed precious longer, able to scour the hills and dales for eggs without looking like a chicken farmer.

Rude behavior at athletic events is not new. Jeering, making fun and teasing has been around for centuries. While fans can actually be ejected from the premises for their unsportsmanlike gestures, ridiculing the opposition can be prompted by people much higher in authority.
