Ellis County District Court No. 443 will have a new candidate on the ballot for judge in Waxahachie. Current Cindy Ermatinger, who has held the gavel since being appointed in 2014 by then Gov. Rick Perry, will retire at the end of December in 2024.

Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that Wilbert James Jones, Jr. 57, of Ennis Texas, was sentenced to life in prison for three offenses of sexual assault of a child on November 8, 2023.

Ellis County and District Attorney Ann Montgomery announced that on November 2, 2023, Richard Rodriguez (42) of Midlothian, Texas, pled guilty and was sentenced to 40 years in prison for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath with a Previous Conviction, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. Rodriguez was set to start a jury trial on November 6, 2023, when he pled guilty.
