The importance of shopping locally has been emphasized with increasing urgency in recent years. Events like Small Business Saturday and Plaid Friday have brought some much-needed attention to the importance of shopping local, which is even more crucial now as so many small businesses try to survive the pandemic.

In what has been viewed as a highly unusual year, the advent of the coronavirus pandemic has placed scores of healthcare workers at risk while serving those who may have fallen victim. Arguably the vaccine against COVID-19 carries questions and controversy, but for those on the medical front lines, it is proving to be both exciting and hopeful.

If there are any performers in maroon who can top the Ennis football Lions, it is the marching band. They don’t mean to brag, but rumor has it the crowds on Friday nights aren’t drawn simply for the sounds of helmets crashing. The Marching E Band provides much more than the background soundtrack for their athletic schoolmates.

Simon James DeKerf, 34, of Waxahachie, who led police officers from several jurisdictions, including Ennis, on a chase that ended at 10 p.m. on Dec. 18 in Bardwell. He was apprehended with help from a police canine, who witnesses said bit the subject into submission, and one or two DPS helicopters supplying overhead light.
