City of Ennis ushers in wintery, family fun
Christmas 1946 Ennis Writers Club party recalled
I have mentioned Evelyn Goble in this column many times before. I met her when I was first with the Ennis Daily News back around 2003. She was then in her 90s and in an assisted living facility in town. She seemed somewhat confused at times but her memory was strong and her desire to be a help to me was great and much appreciated. Evelyn’s father was J. P. Sims, a former mayor of Ennis, and her elder sister, Emma Jean Sims, was treasurer for this newspaper in the 1930s and ‘40s, possibly earlier. Evelyn herself had had a career which she didn’t start until she was over 50, working as a bookkeeper for Ennis Business Forms from the 1960s to the 1990s.
