Ennis Main Street is teaming up with Ennis Economic Development Corporation and the Greater Ennis Chamber of Commerce in launching a training and development series at no cost for small businesses, beginning Tuesday, May 5.

Thursday, May 7, the National Day of Prayer will be held at 7 p.m., in downtown Ennis at Minnie McDowal Park. The public is invited to attend. An order of topics being prayed for will be available on North Dallas and West Knox streets.

Ennis Pointe Senior Living, who took over for Brookdale in September 2025, has done more than adding a fresh coat of paint. They are now owned by Sinceri Senior Living, from Mount Vernon, WA, who, in 35-years have expanded to 77 properties.

Area voters have federal and state races approaching on Tuesday, May 26, though Ellis County also has a lone Commissioner campaign on the ballot. Precinct 2, with its road crew and office located in Ennis, has two Republican farmers vying for the vacant seat.

Two show dates by the Ennis Lionettes, April 24 & 26, had 39 high school dancers perform well over 20 different performances to songs related to places and experiences that may await us in life, hence the theme: “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!”

The highly-anticipated clash for the County Judge gavel, the highest elected position in Ellis County, never materialized. Former Ennis Mayor Kameron Raburn was victorious over County Commissioner Lane Grayson, who bowed out of the runoff. Interim County Judge John Wray continues his term through December, when Raburn begins his three-years.

Creative Arts Director Bill Rhoten announced this week he will host auditions for five roles in “Forever,” a play he is directing in June. The test of ability tryout is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, from 10-12 a.m. at 505 NW Main Street in Ennis. Call 972-878-5126 and ask for Bill.
