When new Ennis Mayor Lynda Isbell first announced her intention to campaign for the opening at mayor, a number of hopefuls tossed their hat in their ring for her vacant seat.

Ennis Independent School District has a sevenmember Board of Trustees, with two seats up for election on Saturday, May 2. Both Kelly McManus, of Place 1, and Place 2’s Tommy Aguilar have their terms ending this month, but only the latter is seeking reelection.

Nearing the end of his first year as Ennis ISD Superintendent, Dr. Greg Bradley, has been at work digging into the district’s education trends dating back to before Covid. Following the EISD’s grade of “C” in October, the new Head of Schools and a strategic plan for raising the bar for students and staff remains a top priority.

After heavy rain cancelled the opening of year twelve of the Bluebonnet Market in downtown Ennis on April 4, the farmers market moved its start to Saturday, April 12, on N. Dallas Street.

Ennis Retired School Personnel’s April 2 meeting was wild with wildflowers, good food and great company. Members and mother/daughter team, Chris Cook and Karina Jones, presented a program entitled “Do You Know Your Texas Wildflowers?”

Registered voters within the city limits of Ennis will vote on Saturday, May 2 for three seats: Mayor Pro Tem, and City Commissioners for Ward 2 and Ward 4. There are three candidates on the ballot for Mayor Pro Tem, and two choices in both Ward 2 and Ward 4. Two incumbents are campaigning for reelection.
