Much like the holidays that preceded it in 2020, Thanksgiving figures to be different this year. An ongoing pandemic has changed the way much of the world lives their lives, including how holidays are celebrated.

Area residents are invited to the annual Veterans Day program at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Veterans Memorial Park located behind Don Jose's Restaurant.  According to Budy Markham, masks and social distancing guidelines should be adhered.

Local school boards had two seats open for bidders, and all have been filled during Eastern Ellis County voting on Tuesday.

Thursday afternoon’s opening of the newly commissioned Story Walk at Lions Park, 1200 W. Lampasas at S. Hall St. drew a crowd of officials, well-wishers and wonderful weather.

Digging in the dirt draws the attention of young mothers and men with trucks. When accompanied by large PVC pipes, passersby begin digging up their own questions.

The month of November is a special time for the nation’s veterans. While Memorial Day honors fallen soldiers and service people, Veteran’s Day, which takes place each November, is an opportunity to commemorate the efforts of all who have been in the armed forces, with a special emphasis on living veterans. While people are encouraged to thank veterans throughout the year, Veteran’s Day is a particularly poignant time to show your appreciation for the men and women of the military.

As we enter the final months of what has certainly been an unprecedented year, health and well-being has perhaps never been more at the forefront of our thoughts. The ongoing pandemic has shown us that it continues to be imperative for us to make our physical health a priority.
