The patriotic annual event continued last week with the largest crowd to have ever attended downtown and at Veterans Park that night. A pyrotechnic spectacular lit up the skies in what many are describing the best and longest fireworks display, much to the delight of crowds all over town.

Palmer recently experienced the end of Kevin Noack’s run of 16-years as superintendent of the Palmer Independent School District. He was a strong leader and worked with a strong cast of school board members. Together, they got things done.

A receptive crowd of approximately 75 gathered at Ennis Fire Station No. 3 on Wednesday as the first Safe Haven Baby Box was installed in Ellis County.

Following a fun-filled Juneteenth Parade on Ennis’ northeast side, scores of locals celebrated the end of slavery in Texas with eats, games and music in a historic setting. The festivities took place along Martin Luther King Drive and at Rogers & Maise Park. The June 19 national holiday continues to educate and celebrate a day of great meaning and significance.

Ennis Public Theatre awarded scholarships to six graduating high school seniors during the Young Artists Program production of Beetlejuice JR. Each of the students has been involved in past shows as actors and stagehands. All six will pursue higher education, and several will be studying theatre arts.

As announced during the Ennis Boys & Girls Club 26th Annual Steak & Burger Bash, the nationwide organization that provides a safe place, caring mentors and life-enhancing programs for kids and teens, is embarking on a bold, new plan to prepare graduating seniors for local careers.

Palmer has concluded their search for a new Head of Schools with the hiring of Dr. Jacob Duce. The former assistant superintendent at Sunnyvale Independent School District will officially start next month.

Ennis Mayor Kameron Raburn was re-elected for a second term on the Executive Board of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) on Friday, June 13. The event was held at the Hurst Conference Center on State Hwy 183 at Interstate 820.
