Ennis Cross Country is experiencing a youth movement at all levels of varsity, junior varsity and especially at the junior high level thanks to the energy of Coach Jada Cox.

A swarming defense and a potent offense have combined to lead Class 4A Athens to a 4-0 start this season.

An all-district high-hurdler in track, senior WR T.T. Cox broke free on an 80-yard TD sprint against Greenville (shown above) last week. The score gave Team Maroon a 14-0 lead with 6:27 left in the first half. He amassed 100 yards on seven carries by intermission. A week prior it was his two-point reception from QB Jackson Gilkey that defeated Waxahachie, 22-21, in overtime.

What became a methodical take-down of an overmatched team became a 28-0 victory by No. 6 Ennis over Greenville at a well-attended Cotton Ford Stadium on Friday night.

Versatile in the clutch, junior WR and Defensive Back Jace Berry, stepped in and stepped up when Ennis needed him most.

The Ennis News is proud to announce the winners of our August Coloring Contest.

The winners received a goody bag of prizes as well as a cash prize. Our lucky winners were Norman Walker (4), Lowe Colunga (7) and Will Cade (10).

No. 6 Ennis snatched victory from the jaws of defeat by scoring an overtime touchdown and then went for broke by converting a two-point conversion to stun Waxahachie, 22-21, at a near packed Lumpkins Stadium.
