One of two instructors named Teacher-ofthe- Year by the Ennis Independent School District, Regina Mach, has invested 32-years in her craft, the last 17 at Austin Elementary. She said she was “happily surprised” at the announcement. Capping her ninth straight year of teaching 2nd Grade, she has averaged between 18-22 students during her career, the first 15 years in the Ferris ISD. A simple conversation makes it clear that Mach’s passion is teaching youngsters.

Ennis ISD wasted little time following the retirement of 29-year EHS Band Director Gary Goodwin before introducing the new Marching Band Director in David Ingram. Summer practice and marching drills begin in five weeks.

Recently, an invitation to guest edit a scholarly journal was received by this paper’s news correspondent, Randy Bryan Bigham.

Premiering this weekend and running at 7:30 p.m. through June 16-17 and 23-24, as well as a 2:30 p.m. matinee on June 25, is The Ashes of Aquitaine. The winner of the national playwrighting contest is appearing now at Theatre Rocks in Ennis.

Ennis Retired School Personnel recently met for their end of year meeting and luncheon. Scholarship awards, officer installation, special recognitions and special guests from TRTA District 10 were all a part of the day. A good time was had by all.

The death in 2021 at age 70 of Ennis’ Kerry Porter, a retired teacher and musician who also operated the popular Facebook page “You know you’re from Ennis….”, shocked and saddened many and we recall him today.
