Area residents may take solace knowing western diamondback rattlesnakes are very rarely sighted in Ellis County. Some have heard there are none, though reality now indicates that is not true. They do exist, but on the west side of the county.

Discount retailer Dirt Cheap, with 15 locations in Texas, has announced that 13 of their 15 storefronts in Texas, including Ennis, at 1205 W. Ennis Avenue, are closing for good. The only two stores to remain open are in Euless and Pasadena. Euless is at 1201 W. Airport Frwy (Hwy 183), west of 360 on Hwy 183.

Ennis will participate in the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) 31st annual national food drive on Saturday, May 13. Nonperishable foods will be collected at mail boxes at area residences when picking up and delivering the mail that day.

A tardy Christmas

New flood maps have been finalized and will become effective on Oct. 19, 2023, for Ellis County, Texas. During the next six months, a FEMA compliance specialist will work with the community to update each floodplain ordinance and adopt these new flood maps.
