I read with interest the story that ran not long ago in the Ennis News, “The night my house burned.” I was speaking with Ginger Boon about a family I’m researching when she mentioned that a really nice woman named May Deitrich used to come each month to pick up the rent. I am amazed that she remembered the name when it was so long ago that she had lived at the house at 408 N. Dallas St.
Discount retailer Dirt Cheap, with 15 locations in Texas, has announced that 13 of their 15 storefronts in Texas, including Ennis, at 1205 W. Ennis Avenue, are closing for good. The only two stores to remain open are in Euless and Pasadena. Euless is at 1201 W. Airport Frwy (Hwy 183), west of 360 on Hwy 183.
Members of the alumni department of Jacksonville College visited Ennis during Bluebonnet Fest to meet with Retha Nunn Bigham who donated archive materials relating to her years with the school’s choir between 1962 and 1964.
